Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss current trends in the diagnosis and management of epilepsy based on patient types, seizure etiology and common physical and psychiatric co-morbidities.
  • Compare and contrast antiepileptic drugs, both generic and branded, considering pharmacokinetic properties, side-effect profiles, dosing considerations, and therapeutic and biologic equivalence.
  • Utilize current treatment guidelines to formulate strategies for seizure management in adults and children, specifically focusing on special populations such as refractory patients, older adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
