The purpose of this conference is to update practitioners on new antimicrobials and the current recommendations for managing commonly encountered or emerging diseases, travel medicine and potential biowarfare exposure.

- Identify value of Malarial prophylaxis
- Relate that lifestyle, social interactions, travel and food processing all contribute to the emergence of new pathogens
- Deduce that the emergence of new pathogens can to some extent be prevented by attention to ecology and antibiotic prescription
- Update the practicing healthcare provider with the history of influenza
